Hyundai Repair: 2001 hyundai santa fe comp pulley, hyundai santa fe, compressor clutch

Question
My car sqeeks really bad even when the air is off.  the comp pulley apears to be moving slower and it has thrown out grease.  I also smell maybe the belt burning when I drive.  My husband wants to order this pulley and change the belt himself.  Can this be done by an amateur?  Does it sound like it's the comp pulley to you ?

Answer
If the sound is the same when the air is on or off, then it's not very likely that the compressor clutch (pulley) is the problem.  If it changes when the a/c is turned on or off, then it's fairly likely that either the a/c belt or the clutch is the issue.

As long as you don't need to remove the compressor and disconnect the a/c lines, you should be able to replace the a/c clutch yourself.  Evacuating and recharging, if necessary, should be done by a professional.
