Hyundai Repair: Right front rotor, constant velocity joints, wheel hub

Question
Hyundai accent 1999. I've tried to remove the right front rotor, but I can not do it. When I place the extractor the axel  shaft moves deeper into it and the rotor does not come out. What I am doing wrong? How can I take out the rotor? Thanx

Answer
You're trying to pull the wheel hub (to the back of which the rotor is mounted) out of the hub bearing in the steering knuckle.  The constant velocity joints in your axle will compress when you do this.  Eventually, the axle will stop pushing in, and you'll start pulling the hub out of the bearing.

Another method is to use a slide hammer with a wheel hub adaptor.  Once you've removed the axle nut, install the slide hammer onto the hub and continue using the slide hammer until it pulls the hub out.

A third method would be to remove the entire knuckle assembly and press the hub out of the bearing.  Using this method, if you still have difficulty, you can take the assembly to a machine shop for them to put on their hydraulic press.
