Hyundai Repair: Sante Fe brakes, sante fe, brake pads

Question
My rear left brake started making noise this week and my husband said I needed new brake pads. I've got about 51,000 miles on my 2003 and from what I remember, I've never had this done. He took it in to have done & they told him I need new rotors. I've never had them grinded before, but they are saying they can't do it & they need to replace them. The price went from $125 up to $350 in seconds. Are they right in saying need them replaced?

Answer
Without seeing the rotors, I cannot say whether they need to be replaced.  If your brakes were worn so badly that the linings were completely worn away and the metal backing plate of the pad was rubbing the rotor, then it's quite likely that you do indeed need new rotors.
