Hyundai Repair: 93 Scoupe engine stalls when hot, temp gauge, scoupe

Question
My 93 Scoupe runs fine until Ive been driving about 1 hour then the engine hesitates and eventually dies. It will re-start but has no power even if I give full throttle. It only happens in city driving, not on the highway.
I replaced the fuel filter, cleaned and re-gapped all plugs, checked timing, tried to check codes but couldnt get any codes to read out. Fans seem to operate normally, engine temp gauge never shows HOT. Actually gauge seems to run below the normal level.
Mechanic checked the coil and all wiring. Says the engine is good and cant find any problem. I have not taken it to dealer yet because of the high cost.

Answer
The symptoms you list are the classic symptoms of a worn fuel pump and gradually decreasing fuel pressure as the pump gets hot.

Check your fuel pressure if you're able.  It should be at least 35 PSI.  If it's low, replace the fuel pump.  If okay, momentarily pinch the return line shut.  The pressure should go up to at least 80 PSI.  If not, replace the fuel pump.

If you're unable to check the fuel pressure, you may want to just replace the fuel pump.  You've given a very good description of what's occurring, and it sounds *exactly* like what happens when the fuel pump is warm.
