QUESTION: do you have to take the tank down through the bottom because when i took the seat up there was no fuel filter just the lid to the fuel filter with two hoses coming out of it one plastic and one rubber but no fuel filter is it possible that there was never one their and if so what could be wrong its not starting and it has to be gas lines because i sprayed some starter fluid in the intake and it ran for a second i put a new fuel pump in it when i turn it over gas spews out of the spout where the plastic hose would go and nothing is coming out of the spout where the ruber hose would go is that the way it should be ....thanx
ANSWER: You should be able to access the fuel filter through the hole.  If the fuel filter were erroneously not installed, the fuel pump would pump the fuel out of the fuel line where the fuel filter would attach and onto the ground.

The plastic pipe with the fuel pressure in it should go from the fuel pump mounting plate to the fuel filter.  The rubber hose is for the vapor management system and should therefore never have any fuel in it.

Has your check engine lamp been coming on?  If so, you should check diagnostic trouble codes.

Have you checked to see whether the injectors are firing?  Even if the fuel delivery system works normally, your engine won't start if the computer doesn't fire the injectors.

I'm also a little concerned about the conclusion that this is a fuel problem.  Starting fluid is very combustible.  I'm not sure whether it will combust from pressure and heat alone, but it's much more combustible than gasoline.  It's possible that you have a situation which isn't allowing the gasoline to burn but is good enough for the starting fluid to burn.

QUESTION: thank you     you were right i think it is something to do with the injectors fuel dilivery is fine what is the thing called that controls the opening and shutting of the fuel injectors and what else do you think it could be thanks again
ANSWER: The engine control module (ECM) controls the firing of the fuel injectors.  It does this primarily based on input from the crankshaft position sensor.  But this sensor is also needed for the ECM to provide spark, so if you have spark, I'd doubt the crank sensor is the issue.

QUESTION: what about the cam sensor and how do i check the electronic stuff like that     do i use a OBD2

Answer
You won't be able to read the camshaft sensor through the OBD-II port.  You'll need to check whether it has proper voltage and ground and whether it outputs the proper square wave signal.

It's unnecessary to check the camshaft sensor, however.  The engine will run even if the camshaft sensor isn't working properly or not working at all.  The computer simply fires the injectors for cylinders #1 and #4 together and #2 and #3 together, since it cannot determine which is on compression.  The car will display some hesitation on acceleration, but other that that, it'll run fine.
