Volvo Repair: oil leak, volvo 244dl, flame trap

Question
Hello Patricio,
This is for a 1985 volvo 244DL, 2.3 liter engine, automatic.
There was a sudden leak, coming from the back of the engine; I felt back there, and there was a hole just below the level of the valve cover (facing the firewall), through which I could feel the end of the camshaft (I think!). the oil was just spraying out when I held my hand back there, while the engine was running. Is there some sort of a plug, or seal that fell off? Could you please tell me how to replace that, and what kind of part I need? Do you have to take the head off to replace it?
Thanks,
Paul Simcoe

Answer
Paul, The part is called a rear cam plug.  You dont have to take the head off but you need to take the valve cover off and the rear cam holddown.  Its not bad to do and the seal is cheap from the dealer.  I would also check the flame trap filter.  It may be clogged and caused too much pressure and that could be why the seal popped out.  Roger
