Hyundai Repair: how to re-set alarm system affter a battery death, valet mode, hyundai logo

Question
QUESTION: (2000 Hyundai Sonata GLS)
I forgot to turn off the lights, so my battery was drained out.  I charged the battery, but the alarm system no longer worked after that.  How can I restart the alarm system?
thanks!
ANSWER: In many instances, the alarm system puts itself in valet mode.  You'll need to follow the instructions for your particular alarm system to take it back out of valet mode.

The 2000 Sonata didn't come with a factory alarm.  It's possible you have a Hyundai accessory or an aftermarket system.  If you have a Hyundai logo on the alarm remote, it's a Hyundai accessory.  In this case, try to describe the logo and the alarm remote to me.  If there is no logo, it's aftermarket, and I won't have any information regarding the alarm's operation.

QUESTION: Thank you very much for the answer.
I just checked TBS 01-90-011.  The picture corresponding to the remote transmitter (P/N 00265-11002) looks exactly the same as my remote, except that there is a Hyundai logo on the front side of my remote, under the button.
I noticed that "The LED (P/N 00265-11001) and the Valet Switch (P/N 00265-11000) are not included in the DEI keyless kit".  So what am I supposed to do to reset the alarm?

Thank you very much!

Answer
Since your remote matches the one in the picture and neither has a Hyundai logo, it's my presumption that you have a DEI keyless entry system.

First, check your car to see if the LED and valet switch are present.  The LED should be obvious.  The valet switch, on the other hand, may not be so obvious.  Look behind the left side of the dash to find the control module.  Then see if any of the wiring leads to a valet switch.

The LED is useful because you'll know at a glance whether the system is in valet mode.  The LED will be on constantly if you're in valet mode.  The valet switch is useful to allow you to attempt to program remotes and take the system out of valet mode.  If you have neither, you should be able to take the part numbers to your local Hyundai dealer and purchase them.

Something I didn't think about previously is that the remote battery may be dead.  You should check the remote battery with a voltmeter to see if it's dead.  If so, replace the remote battery.
