Hyundai Repair: 2001 Hyundai Elantra ck engine light on, vehicle speed sensor, hyundai elantra

Question
2001 Hyundai Elantra 4cyl.
I had the computer codes read by Autozone. They were P1529, P0500, and P0501. Are these the input & output speed sensors?
Should I replace them both or try one at a time, then clear computer codes after each replacement? Also could you tell me the steps involved in changing these? Thanks in advance.

Answer
P0500 and P0501 are for the vehicle speed sensor, which on your vehicle is the right front wheel speed sensor.  You should check the tone wheel on the axle and the wiring from the sensor all the way up to the connector inside the right front fender liner.  I've seen rodent eaten wiring or a broken tone wheel a number of times.

P1529 indicates that the transmission control module (TCM) requested the check engine lamp be turned on.  Since P0500 and P0501 are both engine control module (ECM) codes, I suspect there may be more trouble codes in the TCM that AutoZone didn't read.  Depending on their code reader, they may not have the capability of doing so.  Without knowing the TCM codes, I cannot make a reasonable judgment of the probability that P1529 is related to your vehicle speed sensor problem.
