Question
QUESTION: My drivers side seat will go to every position except back.
The seat will respond to up and down and will go forward ,but will not go back ....no noise ,all other motions are smooth and silent. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Lou
ANSWER: The same motor and wiring are used for forward and back, so if the seat moves forward but not back, I cannot think of any place possible for the problem other than the seat switch.

QUESTION: 2001 HYUNDAI XG300 .Drivers seat......Are wires connected to each seat switch position?..could the wire that leads to the backing up of the seat be off, or broken?...Lou

Answer
I'm sorry for the delay in this reply.  Since you provided the year and model of your car, I wanted to check the schematic for the power seats to be sure my understanding of how the circuit worked was correct.

While each position of the switch has wires attached to it, I don't believe it's quite the way you think it is.  For example, there's not one wire for backward and another wire for forward.

In the circuit for your moving your seat front and back, you have the switch, the front/back motor, a pair of limit switches, and some wiring.

You have two wires that supply power and ground to the switch.  We know these are okay because other seat functions operate normally.

You have one wire that goes from the switch to the front/back motor.  We know this wire is okay because it's used to move the seat both forward and back.

Since the same motor moves the seat forward and backward, we know the motor is okay.

You have one wire from the front/back motor to the limit switches.  Again, since this wire is used for both front and back motion, we know it's okay.

The limit switch assembly could be the issue since it has one switch to turn off the motor when the seat reaches the front position and a separate switch for when the seat reaches the rear position.

You have two wires running from the limit switch assembly to the seat switch, one for each limit switch.  One of these wires could be broken, causing the seat to move in one direction, but not the other.

I still think the most likely issue is the seat adjustment switch.  If you'd like, you can look at the schematic by registering for a free account at www.hmaservice.com (requires Internet Explorer).
