Hyundai Repair: 2001 Santa Fe, diagnostic strategy, autozone

Question
I didn't have time to let my car warm up. When I pulled out I hit the gas and the check engine light came on and the car would drive but until I got to about 30mph the car was puttering and acted like it wasn't getting enough gas. When I got home I let it set and when I got back in everything was fine. Well, it happened again a week ago and now the check engine light is on again and it almost dies when I stop at a light or stop sign. It still putters when in park but it stays on. I need help. Could it be gas frozen in the line? I had 1/4 tank.

Answer
The puttering you describe is more likely caused by an ignition system problem than anything else.

To start, have your engine diagnostic trouble codes read.  This will tell you what sort of problem you have.  From there, we can develop a diagnostic strategy.  AutoZone and AAMCO have advertised they'll read trouble codes for free.
