Hyundai Repair: car trouble, car trouble, failsafe

I got in and started the car and the car runs in idle just fine, but it won't change gears.  I can change them in manual but it is dragging really bad and won't pick up speed.  Could it be the computer, or a fuse in the engine that went out.

The symptoms you describe are consistent with the transmission being in failsafe.  While the computer or a fuse are potential problems, there are many possible issues and the cause is most likely elsewhere.  

To find out the particular nature of the problem, you should read your engine and transmission diagnostic trouble codes.  AutoZone has advertised they'll do this for free, and they should be able to do so if your car is model year 1996 or newer.
