Hyundai Repair: 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe, hyundai santa fe, dipstick tube

I recently took my V6 two wheel drive 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe in for a transmission service to my local mechanic. It was missing the external filter. You could see where the casting was made for the filter, however, no filter was installed. Did Hyundai ever make the 2001 Santa Fe with an internal transmission filter? My mechanic also said that the transmission vent was plugged. He could not locate it. Could you also tell me how to find the vent?

Hyundai deleted the external filter very early in the 2001 model year production run.  There is an internal filter that's not serviceable (without removing and disassembling the transmission).  

The transmission vent is in the dipstick tube.  How did your mechanic determine the vent was plugged if he couldn't locate the vent??
