I need a new battery cable to connect to the negative post on my 2002 Sonata. What are the steps to remove and replace the battery cable in question? Is this something I can do at home, or should I get a professional mechanic?

The positive and negative cables come as an assembly.  To replace, you'll need to run the positive cable to the starter and the alternator, and the negative cable to a transmission and a body ground point.  

If the issue is just a problem with a terminal, you can probably purchase a generic terminal from your local parts supplier, cut the old one off, strip the insulation back, and clamp the cable into the new terminal.
