Hyundai Repair: 93 Hyundai Scoupe, hyundai scoupe, radiator fans

Question
Radiator fans are not turning, temp gauge shows almost over-heating.With the heater on temp gauge is below running temp.

Answer
You'll need to investigate the fan control circuit.

Turn on the air conditioning and see whether both fans run.  If so, you've just shown that the fan motors themselves are good, so you should suspect the thermo switch in the bottom of the ridiator or the high radiator fan relay.

The a/c switch activates the fans through the condensor fan relay and the radiator fan low relay.  The thermo switch activates one fan only through the radiator fan high relay.  To check the relay, simply swap with one of the others and recheck.  To check everything in the thermo switch circuit, unplug the thermo switch and short the terminals in the harness connector together.  The fan should run.  If it does, that's an indicator that the switch itself is defective since you've just proven that everything else in the circuit is okay.

If one of the fans doesn't run, you should unplug the fan motor and check for power and ground at the connector.  If power and ground are present but the fan wasn't running, you'll need a new fan motor.
