Hyundai Repair: speedometer repair, speedometer repair, straightforward job

Question
I have a 2002 Santa Fe AWD. The speedometer and Odometer and Cruise all quit working after a severe pothole encounter. It worked irratically for a while then went completely out. I am new to Sante Fe repair. Where is the sensor gear located in the transmition. Is it pretty straightforward to replace? Thanks for your help.

Answer
It's a pretty straightforward job.  The sensor mounts on the top of the differential of the transmission and is held in place by one 10mm bolt.  It'll be back toward the firewall and below the top of the main portion of the transmission.  When attempting to remove the sensor and gear assembly, the sensor frequently breaks.  You're probably best prepared to have a new gear and sensor available when you begin the job.
