Hyundai Repair: 99 hyundai electrical, slow blow fuse, digital voltmeter


Question
i have a 99 acent auto  , we had a snow storm here and had to rev the car and rev  back and forth to get it out of the driveway  around a hour later the car went dead , i got a boost but it goes dead almoost right away after the boost, i i just had my alternater re bult a round 3 months ago so i dont think that is it. The reason i think it is a electrical short as soon as i star t the car the temp gage goes right to the end hot. with out even the car warmming up any help woulf be very much apprecated thanks

The symptoms certainly sound like an alternator issue.  Although I agree the coolant temperature gauge isn't working properly, that shouldn't have any effect on the vehicle running once it's started.

Once you get the car started again, check voltage across the battery terminals with a digital voltmeter.  If it's less than 13.5 Volts, you have a charging system problem.  Check to make sure you have power to the alternator in the two wires in the alternator connector.  One should have battery voltage; the other should have a lower voltage because it runs first through the battery lamp in the cluster.  Both should light a test lamp.  Also check the main 100A slow blow fuse.  If all those items are okay, your alternator is the culprit.  

For your temperature gauge issue, I suspect you have a short in the wiring to the temperature sender.  With the sender unplugged, the gauge should be at cold.  If it remains at hot, the problem is either with the wiring or the gauge itself.
