Hyundai Repair: santa fe steering pump, hoses, santa fe

Question
I have a 2002 Santa Fe, V6, 4wd.  My steering pump went out today, along with the associated hoses.  Mechanic advises about a grand to repair, with the majority of the cost being tied up in parts, not labor, as the availability of remanufactured parts is basically zero around here.  Does this sound about Right?

Thanks

Answer
My only surprise is that they say you need hoses *and* a pump.  I suppose it's possible that the hoses were leaking a little and the pump was the primary failure, but I'm a little suspicious that the shop is attempting to repair your vehicle by replacing more parts than are necessary.

I'd recommend trying to find out what the specific issues are with each item that's recommended for replacement.  It's possible there are perfectly valid reasons.  Unfortunately, without having the vehicle present, it's difficult for me to draw a conclusion.

As for the pricing and availability of remanufactured parts, everything you mention sounds correct.
