Hyundai Repair: Starter 2001 elantra, starter 2001, battery tester

Question
I am getting a very fast clicking noise when I try to start the car.  I don't have a battery tester but headlights are bright and all electrics work. I'm pretty sure it's the bendix or starter but I read in one of the other posts that hyundai starters almost never go out.  I don't want to go through the process of removing it if it could be something else.  Thanks in advance.  PS  A new or rebuilt started runs $150- $250.

Answer
Normally, the rapid clicking is indicative of a low battery.  The starter requires much more current than the other electric devices on the vehicle, so that could be a reason why everything works except the starter.

If you have a voltmeter, you can make a quick check at the battery terminals.  While attempting to crank the engine, it should read no lower than 10V.  If it's significantly lower than that, your battery has either been discharged or you need a new battery.
