Hyundai Repair: 01 2.4l sante fe accessory belt, power steering pump, sante fe

Question
I am working on a 01 2.4l sante fe.  The A/C clutch and maybe compressor have gone out.  I can only find the parts from the dealer and are expensive.  Can I remove the AC and reroute the power steering pump belt? Do I need a bracket/pulley combo or did the w/o AC cars just use a shorter belt for the power steering? Or do you know of a parts suplier I can get the clutch and/or compressor from?

Thank you,
Josh

Answer
You'll probably need to try the shorter belt to see whether it's feasible.  It's possible that the belt tensioner won't be sufficient to tension the belt without going around the a/c pulley.

To check the a/c compressor, remove the belt and attempt to turn the a/c compressor by hand via the center portion of the clutch pulley.  If it won't turn, the compressor itself is locked up.

You might try to find a used compressor if you're unable to find anyone that offers aftermarket or reman compressors.  The price for a new factory compressor is indeed quite large.
