Hyundai Repair: 2002 SONATA, speed sensors, auto parts store

Question
I was driving on the highway and my car suddenly hesitated and dropped in acceleration and immediately the Check Engine light came on. I took my car to an Auto Parts store and they ran a check which indicated the Speed Sensor.

Would this cause the Engine light to come on?
Can this cause additional damage to the engine if I continue to drive my car?

Thanks
AV

Answer
If you have a trouble code stored for one of the speed sensors, then that could have caused the check engine lamp to come on.  If that's the case, there's usually a P1529 code as well to indicate that a check engine lamp was requested.

If your transmission is going into failsafe or isn't shifting properly, continued driving can damage the transmission.
