Hyundai Repair: 2001 Hyundai accent, charcoal canister, hyundai accent

Question
My sons 2001 hyundai accent will not take fuel. Every time he trys to fill the tank the pump shuts off as if the tank is full. We seen no obvious blockage and it happens even with slow filling flow.

Answer
All 1998 and newer vehicles have what is called an on-board refueling vapor recovery system.  This means that the fuel system takes on the fuel and vapors from the pump and must vent through the charcoal canister to the atmosphere.  There is some sort of a blockage preventing the vapors from coming out of the tank through the charcoal filter.  This could be due to a blockage in the tank, a faulty valve in the top of the tank, crimped hoses or pipes, a blocked charcoal canister, a faulty tank leakage pump, or a blocked canister filter.
