Hyundai Repair: Sonata 2001 engine Light, powertrain control module, transmission control module

Question
Is the trans axle the same thing as the transmission control module, the gears are changing I  can feel them change sometimes but car the rides very rough.
I still don't understand where this module is located, is it inside the car or under the hood?  I had a mechanic put it on the computer and it came up with that code t1529 or something like that I do not have the printout with me but I'm sure that was the code.. About how much this part will cost me

-----Question-----
Where in the car do you find the TCM? How much do they cost?
A car not having a working TCM, can that ruin the car? I know trhat is what my car needs but I can't afford it @ this time, I drive the car because I have to work..
-----Answer-----
The transaxle control module is located under the heater box, in the center of the car (from side to side).

If the TCM is not working, it can eventually cause damage to the transmission, because the transmission will be stuck in third gear.

Out of curiosity, how did you conclude that the car needs a new TCM?  I don't recall ever seeing a Sonata that needed a TCM for any reason other than flooding.

Answer
The transaxle is your transmission.  It is located under the hood.

The transaxle control module (TCM) is located inside the car in the location I described earlier.  It is the computer that controls the operation of the transmission.  If you have a six cylinder, I'd expect the TCM to cost at least $500.  If you have a four cylinder, the TCM is integrated into the PCM (powertrain control module), which controls the engine and transmission.  I'd expect a new PCM to cost in excess of $900.

I've seen little in your questions, however, that would imply you need a new TCM.  The code P1529 simply means that the transmission control module requested for the check engine lamp to be turned on.  P1529 is the code that stores in the engine module.  To find out what the nature of your problem is, you'll need to read the trouble codes in the transmission computer.  I'm not familiar with generic code readers and scan tools, and it's not clear whether they will have the capabilities of reading your transmission codes.
