When I turn the ignition key, the car makes a rapid clicking sound and does not start.  The interior lights come on, so it doesn't seem like the battery is dead.

Answer
The clicking occurs because the battery doesn't have enough power to hold the starter solenoid engaged.  The reason the interior lights come on is because they take much less power to operate than the starter.  If the car is less than three years old, send it to the dealer for (at least partial) warranty service.
