Hyundai Repair: poor mileage, highway fuel economy, hyundai accent

Question
I just bought a 2005 Hyundai Accent; the best mpg (hwy) is 20mpg. The dealer I bought it from said there's nothing they can do. I have replaced the air filter & changed fuel brands and grades w/o result. It has a 1.6L AT w/26,000 mi. I was looking for a new engine computer chip for improved mpg. Do you know of any vendors for Hyundai engine computer chips (Hyundai doesn't make one) or any clues to increase mpg?

Answer
I don't know anything about aftermarket chips, but I also strongly recommend against using them.  It could cause you to be refused warranty service depending on the problem the vehicle has.

Below are my fuel economy driving/diagnosis tips.  The last items will probably need to be done professionally.
1.  Drive the vehicle gently-- easy starts and stops.
2.  Keep your tires properly inflated.  More pressure translates into better fuel economy, but too much will wear out your tires sooner.
3.  Make sure the car engages all four forward gears normally.  This is very important for highway fuel economy.
4.  Make sure the brakes aren't dragging.
5.  Make sure the alignment is proper.
6.  Check engine and transmission computer for trouble codes.
7.  Check engine and transmission data values.
