Hyundai Repair: 02Sonata wont start, security device, canadian tire

Question
I left the keys in the car in the 'on' position for about 5 hours and when i went to start the car it didn't start. We tried boosting it with no luck. We called a tow truck and took it to Canadian Tire. They said it wasn't the starter or battery, it must be something with the wiring. I told them to wait until I looked into things a bit more because they want to charge me $80/hour to look at it. And they said it might be something the dealership has to fix. We don't have any kind of security system in the car, but the mechanic said a red light was flashing above the ignition and he thought it was some kind of security device. Please help, what should I do? What could it possibly be that it drives fine in the morning and all of a sudden it's dead!

Answer
The car didn't come from the factory with any flashing red lights near the ignition, so it sounds to me like a security system, too.  You should look into the red light and what's activating it.  Bypassing the security system to enable the car to start is typically just a matter of shorting the correct wires back together.  But this often will lead to undesireable consequences with the security system such as sounding the alarm.  If you don't have any sort of remote to operate the security system, and there's no valet switch, you'll either need to have the security system serviced or you'll need to remove it.
