Hyundai Repair: 1994 hyundai elantra ignition, timming belt, hyundai elantra

Question
1994 hyundai elantra 1.8L.
a new timming belt was installed and the car ran good for
about 19 miles then cut off. I would toll car home
and car would start okay. I then replaced fuel
filter, fuel pump, and strainer. I also took gas
tank off and had it flushed. After this was done
the car will start and run for about 10 minutes
and then cut off. It will not start again untill
engine cools completely off. Could you please
give me some suggestions of what to check.
                             thank you, George

Answer
Since you're implying this problem began after the timing belt was replaced, you should first inspect for proper cam timing.  The symptoms you describe are consistent with the cam timing being slightly off.

If the cam timing is correct, then you'll want to figure out what sort of problem you have.  You'll want to know whether you have spark and fuel pressure.  So start by checking those items.

Hyundai had some problems with the optical crank sensors in 1994, so if you've got no spark, there's a good possibility that could be your issue.
