Hyundai Repair: 99 Hyundai Elantra, hyundai elantra, p0300

Question
today my 99 Elantra started sputtering and the check engine light came on. I also smell gasoline. Does this sound like the fuel injector or what?

Answer
This sounds like a misfire.  The trouble code will tell you which cylinder(s) the misfire is on.  A code P030x represents a misfire on cylinder #x.  P0300 represents a random misfire.  It's possible that this would be caused by a fuel injector, but most frequently it's caused by a secondary igntion problem (spark plug, plug wire, ignition coil).

In any event, I recommend at least having the trouble codes read.  If you're not actually having a misfire issue, the trouble code will tell you what sort of issue you are having.  Similarly, reading the trouble codes will also tell you if you have a problem in addition to the misfire.
