Hyundai Repair: Hyndai Sonata check engine light, purge valve, hyundai sonata

Question
2000 Hyundai Sonata V6. code do441 Purge Flow Fault. Recently my check engine light came on. I went to Autozone and the got the 441 code. The tech said to replace the purge control valve (28910 22040) which I did yesterday. When I started the car the check engine light was still on so I disconnected the battery. Should the check engine light have gone off if the valve was the problem, or did I need to disconnect the battery to clear the stored code. If the light comes back on what would you suggest next. I also put on a new gas cap but I am very sure that there is nothing wrong with the original. Someone said it could be the hoses that run in and out of the purge valve. Thank you for your help. Mike

Answer
There's an outside chance that the problem was not with the purge valve, but this would pretty much require a leak in the hose between the valve and intake.

The lamp won't go out on its own until there are three consecutive drive cycles where the purge valve passes the self-test the computer runs.  This would normally take a few days to a week.  If the problem is repaired, the lamp shouldn't return.  If it does, start with having the code read again.  It's possible there could be a different issue.
