Hyundai Repair: clutch replacement price, dual mass flywheel, driveline vibration

Question
I took my 2004 5 speed sonata into the dealer for repair.  I assumed it was the clutch by the way the car was driving. I never thought it would be so much to repair.  They told me it would be around $820 if it didn't need a fly wheel. Around 880 if it needed the flywheel repaired but could be mechanically fixed. Around $2280 if it needed a new flywheel altogether. This all sounds incredibly high.  I estimated around 4-500 dollars, are these prices inline with all hyundai svc.centers?

Answer
Those prices sound about right.  The subframe must be removed to get the transmission out to enable servicing the clutch.

But absolutely *do not* allow them to repair your flywheel.  You have what's called a dual mass flywheel in your vehicle which absorbes the driveline vibration.  In most cars, the clutch disc does this.  It's because of this special construction of the flywheel that it's so expensive.  But attempting to repair it will cause it to be out of balance and cause vibration.  If it's damaged at all, you should replace it.
