Hyundai Repair: speed sensor, vehicle speed sensor, pulse generators


Question
i have a 1998 accent i believe it's a 1.5 liter the signs are that it doesnt shift properly at certain times like up hills or when i hit the accelerator the rpms stay real high its not the trans because i get a code that indicates the speed sensor also when i have the ac on it reacts more this way then when off so can u please help me locate the sensor for this problem thanks

Hi, Robert.  What speed sensor are you trying to locate?  If you don't think you'll be able to describe clearly what you're looking for, then you can probably give me your symptoms, and that'll probably let me know what you're talking about.

It sounds like you're probably talking about the pulse generators (an input and output speed sensor bundled together).  These usually set code P0717 or P0722.  One (output speed) is located on the top of the transmission in the back, and the other (input speed) is located in the end cover in the front and on the bottom.  The electrical connector for them is under the battery tray.

The vehicle speed sensor usually sets a code something like P05xx.  But this wouldn't typically cause a shifting issue, so I don't think that's what you're talking about.
