Hyundai Repair: 2000 Hyundai Elantra cutting out, crankshaft sensor, hyundai elantra

Question
I replaced the battery cable ends on my 2000 Hyundai and now it starts and then dies. Does something need reset after replacing these? Also, after driving the car 35 to 40 miles it starts cutting out. If I let off the accelerator it seems to run ok. Or if I shut it off for a few minutes and restart it, it seems fine. This happens all the time when I run it 35 or 40 miles, could it be the water pump?

Answer
Unfortunately, there's nothing that needs to be reset.  Also, a faulty water pump won't prevent the vehicle from running unless it physically won't turn.  If the starter cranks your engine, that's obviously not the problem.

My initial thoughts are that you might have a problem with the fuel pump or crankshaft sensor.  If you can check the fuel pressure, that would be a good place to start.  You should have about 35-40 psi under normal conditions.  For this test to be meaningful, you'd need to be checking the fuel pressure when the condition is occurring.

Do you have a check engine lamp coming on when the vehicle is running?
