Hyundai Repair: replace power antenna, power antenna, car one

Question
How do you replace the power antenna in a 2000 sonata? The telescopic piece broke, the new one has a long plastic cord to go into the motor. Not sure how to disassemble the old one or install the new one.

Answer
This usually takes 2 people, one in the car one out. There is a nut on the top of the antenna housing, you will also see this on the new antenna. Remove it fron the antenna on the car. Have someone in the car turn the radio on. The old antenna will motor up and have someone pull up on the old one. The plastic cord will come out with a little extra tug. To install the new one someone will have to feed the plastic cord into the antenna. Push down hard into the antenna motor and have someone in the car turn the radio off. This may take a few trys but if the motor isn't damaged the cord will catch and the antenna will start to feed into the housing. Install the nut and turn the radio on and off a couple of times and it should adjust itself to the bottom of its travel.
Good Luck and I hope this helps
