Hyundai Repair: rear suspension, torque torque, strut assembly

are there any tips on how to replace o/s/r strut hyundai accent year 1997 and does one type fit all

DISASSEMBLY
Raise the front of the vehicle and mount it on a jack stand.
Remove the wheel and tire.
Detach the brake hose and tube bracket from the strut assembly.
NOTE
Do not pry or force the components.


Remove the strut assembly from the knuckle and wheel house.
CAUTION
When working on the suspension components such as insulator mounting nuts and lower arm bushings, they should be temporarily installed with the vehicle lifted up and finally tightened to the specified torque after lowering the vehicle.
At this time, weight of unladed vehicle should be applied on the suspension system.


Using special tool, spring compressor, compress the coil spring.

Holding the upper spring seat with special tool, special spanner, loosen the nut at the top end of the shock absorber and remove the insulator.
Remove the spring seat, spring and rubber bumper.

REASSEMBLY
Install special tool on the coil spring and compress the spring. After spring is fully compressed, install it on the strut subassembly.
NOTE
Install the coil spring with the identification mark directed toward the knuckle.


Install the rubber bumper, upper rubber seat, upper seat assy, insulator and washer in order.
NOTE
Align the D-shaped hole in the spring seat upper assembly with the indentation on the piston rod.

After having correctly seated the upper and lower ends of the coil spring in the upper and lower spring seat grooves, loosen special tool.

Using special tool, hold the upper spring seat and tighten the self-locking nut to specified torque.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION
Spring seat to piston rod 60-70 Nm 600-700 kg·cm 43-51 lb·ft  


Pack grease in the strut upper bearing and install the cap.
CAUTION
Make sure that no grease is on the insulator rubber.

SPECIFICATION
Recommended grease SAE J310a, Chassis grease (NLGI No. 0,equivalent)  

NOTE
When installing the strut, the mating surface must be clean, and refer to the following tightening torque.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION
Strut upper installation nut 20-30 Nm 200-300 kg·cm 14-22 lb·ft  
Strut assembly to knuckle 90-105 Nm 900-1050 kg·cm 65-76 lb·ft  

Be sure to bleed the brake system when installing the brake hose.
