Chris

Answer
Beginning with December, 1990 production, some factory installed radios will have an Anti-Theft system built in. This system deters theft by making the radio unit inoperable when it is removed from the vehicle. A preset Lock-Out code must be entered with the radio preset buttons to activate/reactivate the radio operation. This code, along with the radio chassis identification number, is on a User Card. The radio chassis identification number is also on a sticker located in the following locations in the car:

Excel And Scoupe: Under carpet in front passenger foot well.

NEW VEHICLE - DEALER ACTIVATION

The dealer must activate the audio unit prior to delivery of the vehicle. The User Card will be located in the bag in the trunk with the extra fuses and owners manual. Activate the Anti-Theft system as described below and then place the User Card in the glove box.

NOTE
Buyers should be requested to put the User Card in a safe place. It should not be left in the car. If the User Card is lost, the code must be obtained by calling Hyundai National Consumer Affairs.

FLOAT RADIOS

Float radios will have the User Card with radio chassis identification number and Lock-Out code taped to the top of the repaired unit. Follow the same activation procedure as a new car. Remove the old radio chassis identification sticker in the car and replace with the new one that came with the float radio. Tape the old User Card on top of the radio being returned.

NEW RADIOS

New radios will come with the User Card and radio chassis identification stickers attached to the top of the radio. Activate as for a new car and then place the identification sticker in the proper location as described previously.

LOST USER CARDS

If the dealer or customer loses the User Card, the lock-out code can be obtained by calling Hyundai National Consumer Affairs on (714) 965-3006.

ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM ACTIVATION PROCEDURE
Get the User Card out of the trunk and verify that the radio chassis identification number is the same as the one on the sticker hidden in the car.
Make sure that the ignition switch is in the "ACC" position and the power switch on the radio is on. The word "CODE" will be displayed on the radio.

Enter the Lock-Out code by pressing the numbered preset buttons in sequence. If your code is "3456" then press the "3" button for the first digit, "4" for the second digit, "5" for the third digit, and then "6" for the last digit.

WARNING
The Anti-Theft lock-out system will be activated whenever the power is removed from the radio unit. If the battery is disconnected or the radio fuse is removed or blown, the radio must be reactivated following the new radio activation procedure.

CANCELING AN INCORRECT LOCK-OUT CODE

If the wrong lock-out code is entered, the Anti-Theft system will activate and the radio will become inoperable. To correct this, press and hold the "BAND" button for at least 3 seconds until the incorrect number on the radio disappears and "CODE" is displayed again.

NOTE
If the incorrect lock-out code is input 3 times, it will not be possible to cancel the incorrect lock-out code. The radio will not accept another code until one hour elapses.

ANTI-THEFT INDICATOR

The blinking Anti-Theft indicator light can be turned on and off. With the ignition key in the "OFF" position and the radio power switch in the off position, press the "BAND" button and hold for at least 3 seconds to cancel the indicator blinking mode. Push the "BAND" button again and hold for at least 3 seconds to re-activate the indicator blinking mode again.

NOTE
Only when the vehicle will not be used for an extremely long period of time, should the Anti-Theft Indicator blinking mode should be turned off to help prevent discharging of the battery.

TEST MODE

The radio can be temporarily activated for testing without entering the User Code by depressing and holding BAND button while turning on power switch. This will allow the radio to function for 3 minutes.
