Isuzu Repair: speedometer, speedometer gear, speedometer cable

the speedometer on my 1993 rodeo went out, local parts stores tell me the speedometer cable is a dealer only item, was curious if the problem might be something other than a bad cable, ie: speed sensor on the tranny?

Well Randy, Yes it could be, but the speedometer cable also runs your odometer, so if both aren't working, it is definately your speedomter cable. Also check your speedometer gear for any faults as well. The cable is probably stripped due to insufficiant lubrication.
