Isuzu Repair: timing, interference engine, isuzu rodeo

Question
does the number one piston have to be on top when timing a 1999 isuzu rodeo

Answer
Hello Ron. Yes it does, although theses engines are an interference engine, meaning if you get the timing off even by half of a degree, the valves will be forced up through the piston. I would recommend the timing belt and any other timing products be dealt by a highly trained mechanic(trust me i know) the tensioner pully on these models is hydraulic and takes a special tool to release and install anyway.
