Jaguar Repair: Replace Alt on 87 series 3, mounting bolt, radio code

Question
How do you replace an alt on a 87 S3

Answer
Hi David,

First disconnect the battery but check to see that you have the radio code to reset the radio when you are finished. Some mechanics choose not to disconnect the battery but if you chose to leave the battery connected you must be very careful with the wires on the alternator as the large brown wore is hot all the time and is easily shorted out while working on the alternator.

The alternator has to be removed from below on ser III cars with AC and almost all ser. III cars delivered to the US came with AC. It is removed by loosening the adjusting bar and remove the belt and remove the adjusting bar and swing the alternator away from the engine and then you can remove the mounting bolt. Be careful not to damage the wires when removing them.
