Jaguar Repair: 85 xj6 headlights, voltage drop test, drop tests

Question
how mr howard. on my 85 jag xj6 my low beam head lights seems to be very dim what could be the couse i have change the sealbeams what else could be wrong.

Answer
Hi James,

What really needs to be done is a voltage drop test of the wiring.

But it is not uncommon for the Series III to have dim head lights due to poor grounds. So first check the grounds (on the shelf over the radiator on each side.) I have found several with bad grounds there. They looked ok and some were tight but I had to remove the (black wire) grounds and clean the paint on the metal and clean the "I"let wire end.

If you don't find the problem there let me know and I will go over the procedure to do "Voltage Drop tests" on the wiring and the relay and fuses. You will need a volt meter to run the tests.
