Jaguar Repair: 1984 xj6, car sam, ac systems

Question
Hello Sammie: I asked you a question about 3 weeks ago about the ac on my jag. I do not know anything about ac systems so please excuse my ignorance. I had a leak in the tube on the firewall going into the evaporator. I fixed the leak there and it holds pressure. Does that mean that the evaporator is ok?
2nd- does the evaporator hook up to the heating system?
3rd- does the evaporator have to be located in the dash- can it be put in the engine bay ?
Thanks, Roy

Answer
The evaporator is part of the heating and cooling system on the XJ6. It must be located in the ductwork of the heating and cooling system. You must have the cooling system charge with refrigerant to test all systems, the compressor, expansion valve and the evaporator. Please take your car to a air condition shop and ask them some questions about your car. Sam
