Jaguar Repair: Series 3 door mirror, british cars, shank

I need to remove the door mirrors on my 1983 XJ6 S3. 3 out of the 4 screws refuse to unscrew and the nut that seems to be pressed into the door skin is turning with them. Any ideas how I can remove the mirrors without damaging the door? Thanks

Hi Adrain,

I have not had that particular problem on the mirror but have had it else where. I always drilled out the head of the screws and after removal it was easier to deal with a screw shank and a loose blind nut. All too common on British cars where they put blind nuts that get rusted and rotate.
