Motorcycle Repair: 83 Goldwing, stator coil, backyard mechanics

Question
When I drive the above bike in 75+ degree weather and stop for a minute or two and shut the bike off, when I try to start, it won't turn over.  It's like a dead battery.  But letting it set for 5 or 10 minutes, it will then start fine.  I do most of the work on the bike myself and use only approved batteries.  It has lifetime guaranteed sparkplug wires and starts fine cold and runs well.  Have asked a number of backyard mechanics about it and no one can give me an explanation as to why it happens.  Could it be that lifetime wires - aren't?  Don't know what else to check.

Thanks for your assistance.

Answer
Hi Ronald.
Check your stator coil.  Not just when the bike is just warmed up, but after it has been warmed up and ridden in the temperature range that it gives you this problem.

You may find that there is a heat related problem with the stator or the wiring from the stator coil to the battery.

Also, doublecheck the wiring.  look for anywhere that it could be arcing from the wiring between the stator coil and the battery.  Extremem cold or high heat with high humidity can cause electricity to travel through some insulation.  Particularly when under extreme conditions like one finds in an engine.

Start with that and let me know what you find.
Good luck.
