Jaguar Repair: 1987 XJS speedometer, trip odometer, service interval

Question
The speedometer on my 87 XJS 12 stopped working. Could it be a sensor or a
cable behind the dash? What do you think would be the easiest and most
efficient way to check? Also when starting the car the trip odometer will roll over
a few tenths of a mile then stop

Answer
Hi Andrew,

The speedometer, trip computer, service interval counter and the cruise control are powered by a transducer (pulse generator) on the rear of the transmission and is a common failed item. Many times it is just the wires on the transducer break.

If you have all three items not working, then that is the first place to look.
