Jaguar Repair: jaguar xj12 1983 not starting ., jaguar xj12, engine cranks

Question
Oxygen sensor warning light still stays on even after resetting the Service Interval Counter in the trunk.
The engine cranks, but it won't start. I replaced the Oxygen Sensor with a new one, but the light stays on, which I think is why it won't start. The oxygen sensor warning light has a white wire with a yellow stripe which goes to the ignition key. It also has one black wire with a slate color stripe that goes to a black box, and another that goes to the Service Interval Counter.  Other than replacing the oxygen sensor, what else could it be?  Any help you could provide would be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Hari,
The O-2 sensor light is a mileage counter and the reset should have put the light out no matter what you did to the O-2 sensor. The O-2 sensor is only a feed back trimmer for fuel mixture and should not have anything to do with making it not start. Unless it is a heated O-2 sensor (3 wire) it don't start feeding info back until it reaches a high temperature.

To track down why it don't start you need to check to see if you have ignition at the plug wires and spray starter fluid or such into the intake in both sides to see if it will fire off for a second or two to see if it is a fuel related problem.

Then when you have clearly established which it is, go to the next step in tracing down what makes it not start.
