Jaguar Repair: can not get my jaguar out of park, shift linkage, steep grade

Question
my jaguar will not go into reverse or drive

Answer
Hi Christine,
If the shift lever is stuck in Park and you are on a steep grade, it most likely is the load of the car on the park paw inside the transmission that prevents you from moving the shifter. The only way to correct the problem is to have another car put a slight push up the grade to relieve the pressure on the Park paw which will allow you to move the lever.

However, If you are on level ground and it is stuck in Park and the lever is stuck you need someone to open the console and examine the shift linkage and operating cable to see if the problem is in that area.

If the shift lever feels normal but the car does not move when put in a gear forward or reverse it can be a transmission problem and the only thing you can check is the oil level.
