Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Electrical Connections on lawn tractor, simplicity tractor, jumper wire

Question
While snowblowing with his 17hp Simplicity tractor, my father's unit simply shut down.  No cranking or apparent connection when the key is turned.  We checked the PTO and hydrostatic swithches to be sure they're ingaged.  We also checked the battery.  We replaced a circuit breaker and solenoid at the suggestion of our local dealer.  They suggested making a 'jump wire' to check the switches on the PTO and hydro.  How is that done?  Any other suggestions?

Answer
There are several safety switches on a tractor (seat, clutch, neutral start, PTO, etc.)  You would need to locate each, and one by one, disconnect the switch and install a jumper wire (made with a short piece of wire and a male spade connector on each end) in the harness connector instead of the switch.  When the tractor starts, you will have found the faulty switch and will need to replace and/or adjust.  Hope this helps.
