Jaguar Repair: 1986 Jaguar Fuel Sending Units, coventry west, fuel sending units

Question
I found that my sending unit in the left tank had a broken wire. The metal connection that hooks to the round terminal had rusted off and I assume is not fixable. My question is this: Is there a difference between the left and right sending unit? Coventry West sells a left and right. However, I moved the right one (which worked) to my left tank because of a separate issue I am having with the changeover valve. I wanted the left tank to read on the gauge. Do I need to move that one back to the right side and buy a new left sending unit or can I just buy a new right sending unit and put it on the right side? Ultimately this would mean I have two "right" sending units on the car.

Answer
Hi Scott,
You got me, I didn't know there was a right and a left. I guess I never tried to switch them. I have had many of them out and never noticed any difference. Most of the failed ones were rusted and the arm would not move. If yours has a broken wire you might try to have a shop braze it in place but I would not want to use solder or such.

My parts books show a right and a left unit also but I would have to look at them side by side to see what the difference is unless the wire arm is bent a little different. If it were mine I would prefer to have them according to Jag specs.
