Jaguar Repair: 84 XJ6 windows, thermal breakers, fuse panel

Question
The passenger front window works in my 84 XJ6 but not the others or the sun roof or radio. My daughter drove it one day and all worked fine again.  I adjusted the seat height and I was back to just the right front window working again.

Answer
Hi Gil,
The windows and the power seat have nothing to do with each other. The windows are powered by thermal breakers on the lower right side of the Aux fuse panel. They are powered by a relay mounted high on the far right of the same Aux fuse panel. However, the common failure of off and on of windows is the switches in the console and the occasional turning off of the master switch. If one window works and the others don't it can't be the master switch. There are two thermal breakers and if one window works on one side and the other does not it can't be the breaker because it feeds both on one side.

You can run in circles all day long trying to use symptoms to diagnose an electrical problem. The ONLY method to correct an electrical problem is to take a wiring diagram and start testing with a 12v test light. If you don't have a diagram let me know and I will put one up on my web site for you to copy.
