Jaguar Repair: Master Switch Location, logic probe, master switch

Question
Thank you so much for all your help.  I just bought a 87 xj6 vp drove off and went to show it off to my friends at work, ?1:When I left the dealership I opened the sunroof with no problem. But now it will not close. At first the back passenger window also would not work, I cleaned the switches, and now back window works fine but still no sunroof, I'm not sure where the master switch is so I can't find if it's turned on. ?2 When I left the dealership both headlights worked now only driver side works on dim, all work on high, replaced passenger bulb and still only works on high. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Kellon,
If any window operates then the master switch is not the problem because the master switch turns all windows on or off. Remove the arm rest lid and the plastic inside tray and unplug the switch for the sun roof. Remove the sun roof switch and look at the bottom of the switch and the harness plug for small numbers on each wire position. Pin socket #3 and #6 are what you need to test in the harness plug. Test the harness socket at pin #8 for power with the key on. (use a volt meter or a logic probe (not a test light) There should be two black wires in the socket, Pin #8 (black wire) and pin #1. Pin #1 (black wire should be a good ground)Pin #7 (red w/slate tracer is the power supply so you can first test it (key on) then put a jumper into that socket to use as a power source. After you have confirmed that pin #1 is a good ground you can use that as your second test lead.
Now, confirm that the two middle pins in the harness are red w/black tracer (pin #3) and green w/black tracer (pin #6)
Next connect your ground jumper from pin #1 to either of #3 or #6. Now take your power jumper from pin #7 and just touch pin socket of the other one of #3 or #6 and the sun roof should start unless it is all the way, in which case reverse the two test leads on 3 %26 6.
All that the switch does is to reverse the power and ground for the sun roof motor which you are now doing manually by plugging in test leads.
The console switches are a constant problem but because the switches come apart so easily you can usually clean the internal contacts to make them work again.
If you do exactly what I outlined above you can test the system. If you follow what I said and the sun roof still don't work you need to go into the trunk and remove the forward panel and use the small hand crank (if it was left in the car) to hand crank the sun roof closed while you work on the wiring or motor. You need a diagram to work on any electrics. If you don't have one for this Jag, let me know and I will post one on my web site for you to copy.
