Jaguar Repair: starting problems Jaguar XJ6 serie III, fuel pump relay, jaguar xj6

Question
Jaguar Repair: starting problems Jaguar XJ6 serie III, fuel pump relay, jaguar xj6
relay
Hello,

I,m a (Dutch) proud owner of a Jaguar XJ6 serie III built in March 1981.
The problems is that the Jag sometimes starts normally, and sometimes starts and stops after two seconds. When I touched the two black relay (zie Image) the Jag will start and keep on running.
Do you know what the problem is, and what can I do to solve the problem

Answer
Hi Martin,
The relays are, the metal relay is the starter relay and the red one is not a relay, it is a diode pack and the two black relays are fuel pump and main relay.

If you only touch the black ones, either one can stop the engine from running. You should check for a loose connection before replacing either one. the red diode pack has no moving parts so it either works or not and will not operate and stop and then operate again unless a loose connection.
I am use to seeing the order reversed with the diodes on the far left side of the picture. (right side of the car)

The fuel pump relay should have a white w/green tracer wire on the #87 pin and the fuel pump relay usually has more wires than the main relay has.

I am not familiar with Euro versions of the XJ-6 so you need to tell me a few things. This is injected correct? and has two CATs, one just below the two exhaust manifolds and one further down in the "Y" of the pipe? Two fuel tanks with a switch on the instrument panel?
