Jaguar Repair: 85 XJ6 passengers front window wont roll down, thermal relays, jumper wires

Question
My '85 XJ6 passenger's front side window will not operate. All the other windows are working fine as well as the sunroof. I checked the console switches – swapped them but it would do any good. Checked the thermal relays that are obviously fine since I only have this front passenger’s window down. When I operate the switch I can hear an electric noise in the door, like a “tic”.

Lastly I noticed that over a short period it started to fail and would work again and eventually not operate at all! Also, the window lift engine wasn’t showing any sign of weakness – in fact it was working very well. Can you help me – anything I should check in particular in the door panel?
Thanks
Jérôme

Answer
Hi Jerome,
It sounds like you did all of the preliminary tests and have narrowed the problem down to the door motor or lift mechanism. Yes, you now need to remove the door panel and check the mechanical parts first then unplug the motor and with two jumper wires ((+)and (-)) try to see if the motor will run in either direction.
